Lee Kong Chian established the Lee Foundation in 1952. Malaysia and Hong Kong’s Lee Foundation were established in 1960 and 1655 respectively, with the noble aim of advancing education, science and medical research, culture and social welfare including aid to the poor and needy regardless of their race, religion or nationality, and also other charitable work.
Lee Foundation has donated funds to help Chinese school in Malaysia from primary schools to colleges, homes for elderly, orphanages, hospitals, and has given countless scholarships to young students for more than 60 years. The Lee Foundation has sponsored the establishment of Sim Mow Yu’s Museum and hosted The International Conference of Overseas Chinese successfully with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in terms of cultural support. There are also other local Chinese schools and cultural and educational groups that have received different level of funding generously form Lee Foundation.
The Lee Foundation has greatly improved the quality of Malaysian and contributed to the overall progress and development of Malaysia with its long-term funding to schools and supporting talented individuals, which this had always been the core content of Tan Kah Kee’s spirit.
